Some biomass materials, such as sewage sludge, poultry litter and refuse derived fuels, contain certain inorganic chemicals that are present in the synthesis gas exiting the gasifier. These inorganic chemicals may include chlorine, sulphur, phosphorus and other potential environmental pollutants. After several years of investigation and demonstration testing in Tulsa, Primenergy has developed a proactive method of removal of these chemicals.
This process, dry scrubs the gas prior to combustion, thus eliminating the need for post-combustion air pollution control equipment. Without this intermediate (between the gasifier and the boiler) filtration device, extensive and expensive air compliance equipment would be required. Operated in conjunction with Primenergy's gasification technology, once abandoned biomass fuels (such as poultry litter or high sulphur containing materials) can now be economically converted into energy.
